"Mushroom Industry in Malaysia: Technology, Issues and Challenges’’

Mushrooms are fungi that have been known since time immemorial not only as high protein traditional vegetable/food but as food that has profound health promoting benefits. Recent scientific studies are now confirming their medical efficacy as well as identifying their many bioactive molecules. Though there are over 2000 edible fleshy mushroom species worldwide only about 100 are cultivated. The cultivation technologies available range from conventional sawdust logs to high technology methods where even the environment for the mushroom’s growth is highly regulated to ensure the production of quality mushrooms.
In Malaysia, mushroom has been cultivated since the early 1970s and the dominant variety is the grey oyster. In recent years and with increasing awareness, mushrooms have now been declared as industrial crop by the Ministry of Agriculture. Many new species are being cultivated and this poses several challenges including suitable technologies that will ensure a viable mushroom industry. This forum will provide the platform to discuss and share the issues, challenges and initiatives needed to promote the industry.
This 3rd Forum on Mushroom Industry in Malaysia will be jointly organized by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) Biotechnology and Agriculture Task Force, Mushroom Research Centre (MRC) and Centre for Biotechnology in Agriculture Research (CEBAR) University of Malaya and Mushroom Association Malaysia (MAM) to generate more awareness in this very important area of mushrooms not only as food but also as health supplements.

Exhibition and Sale of Mushrooms & Mushroom Products

In conjunction with the forum, there will be an exhibition and sale of mushrooms and mushroom products. The sale includes fresh mushrooms (Black Jelly, Shiitake, Golden Needle, Clitocybe), mushroom kits, mushroom snacks & drinks, mushroom nutraceuticals, souveniors and recipe books. This exhibition is open for all.

Jutawan Cendawan Wanita Dari Korea, begitulah tajuk yang saya berikan kepada video hasil dari rakaman Berita TV Syarikat Swasta di Korea. Seorang Wanita yang bergelar Jutawan Cendawan dengan pendapatan Tahunan 6 Juta USD. Wanita ini telah mendapat gelaran Ahli Agrikultur Moden di Korea.
Video beginilah yang akan menjadi pencetus semangat kepada warga-warga siswa atau yang sudah bekerja makan gaji untuk beralih arah menambahkan pendapatan melalui pertanian. Pertanian bukanlah satu bidang yang dipandang lekeh, kerana adanya petani moden yang berbantukan teknologi, kita dapat meraih hasil yang besar di dalam bidang ini. Apa kata kalau kita melihat Succes story hasil dari video ini. Ayuh kita membina kerjaya di dalam bidang Pertanian Moden yang menjanjikan keuntungan lumayan.
